There have been posts in forums and blogs by the boatd load from iPhone 4 customers about the iPhone antenna and signal issues. The problems all talk about a loss in the signal and the bars that show the signal on the iPhone 4, whether you’re making a call or using the internet.

Everything seems to point to the way you use your iPhone, or more specifically, the way you hold your iPhone.  The iPhone 4 antenna problem. While it may sound silly, it’s a very real problem for thousands of iPhone 4 owners.I use my iPhone 4 more than the average cell phone user, some days spending up to 6 hours on the phone with customers, clients and friends. The problem shows itself when you hold the iPhone 4 in a specific way, unfortunately, this “specific” way seems to be the most natrual way to hold the iPhone – or any phone for that matter. The call signal quality and strength can drop from a full 5 bars right down to no more than one single bar, and often complete go away which in turn drops your phone call.

Apple has been extremely slow in even talking about or responding to this problem, stating just recently that a software update to iOS 4 will correct the problem of the signal bars showing incorrect signal quality.  While I have a hard time believing that this is the cause of a completely dropped call in an area that otherwise has excellent signal strength, it’s the only official word all iPhone 4 users have received.

There is a quick fix out there for this issue, and it has to do with having an iPhone 4 case on your iPhone.Once you’ve got your iPhone 4 in an iPhone 4 case, you can hold the phone any which way you like and not have this antenna issue. It is just another prime example that there is some truth to the rumors about bad designs or the wrong materials being used for the iPhone 4 itself. To be honest with you I have always been a very firm believer in protecting any gadget I have, including my iPhone 4 by putting it in a case.  It’s an expensive investment, and spending $10.00 – $20.00 on a case that protects your iPhone just makes sense.  I definitely don’t want to put dents or bumps on my iPhone 4, but I can’t help but be bothered by this issue that has gone away since I put the iPhone 4 in a case, because the issue shouldn’t be there to begin with.

Gizmodo states that Apple may in fact be doing some type of a silent or unannounced recall on the iPhone 4 with certain customers.  Replacing their iPhone 4 with a replacement iPhone, and the issue does not seem to be present on most of these iPhone 4′s that customers are receiving.  It’s important for me to say that this “silent recall” is only speculation – and not something that comes right from the mouth of Apple themselves. However a number of buyers have said that this issue is just not there on their replacement iPhone 4 units.  While others continue to have a problem, unless of course, they put their iPhone 4 back in an iPhone case again.
