0800 numbers are well known in the UK as costing nothing for the inbound caller. The cost of the call is incurred by the receiver.

So in what cases would a company use this type of number if it is costing them money? The main reasons are primarily because more people contact them and so more sales come in for the company.

The numbers have helped thousands of successful businesses and new start-up companies to build consumer trust and loyalty.

The name of the game is to gain the customer trust through showing the customers that you are people orientated by having an 08 number.

So what are there disadvantages of 0800 numbers?

The calls themselves are not free if people are calling in from mobile phones with the increase in mobile phone usage this affects a large proportion of people in the british public.

Soon there will be more calls from mobiles than landlines and that presents a problem for the apparently free 0800 number as this does not apply to the mobile phone.

Mobile calls to 08 numbers can often cost around 25p per minute.

Alarmingly, seven out of ten mobile customers using 0800 numbers from their mobile have no idea how much they are actually being charged for the calls.

The telecom companies are making a lot of money from this type of setup.

Many different organisations are asking for 0800 numbers to be made free to mobiles as well as landline phone which if you think about it makes perfect sense.

0800 numbers are non-geographic and so not associated with any particular location. This enables the business to target customers in and around the UK on a national level.

Good quality of communication is the cornerstone of every buisness, especially startups, and the calls are easily transferable.
